Greetings! My name is Mrs. Collett and I am a graduate of the College of St. Rose and Norwich University.
I have been utilizing several methods of music education in our vocal music program. Using several methods of instruction gives the children the opportunity to excel at many different activities. Their achievement is based on the skills gained during the various lessons.
Carl Orff- German music educator
- instruction based on exploration, imitation, improvisation and composition
-Rhythmic instruction using percussion and speech ensembles,
-singing and playing: xylophones, glockenspiels and percussion instruments
Zoltan Kodaly- Hungarian music educator
-Melodic based instruction
-singing and vocalizing using hand signals
-singing and reading music using a hierarchy of development
Emile Dalcroze- Swiss music educator
-Movement and spacial awarenes
-children move in response to music as a rhythmic, melodic and textural expression
-student leaders in group activites of singing and playing
Will Schmid- American contemporary music educator
-World Drumming emphasizing communication and cooperation between students
-teamwork, respect and listening while in a drum circle or other musical ensemble
-use of music from Africa, Latin America and Caribbean Islands to teach concepts of rhythm, melody, texture and form.
